Dear Annual Conference on Independent Living Attendees,
NCIL has made a substantial change to the conference schedule.
This decision was made based on input provided by the Capitol Police and Metro Police concerning safety and security of NCIL’s attendees, resulting from a pending visit of Israel’s Prime Minister on the same day as NCIL’s March and Rally.
While this is not a decision we take lightly, the safety of our members remains our priority.
March & Rally
NCIL’s March to and Rally at the U.S. Capitol will now take place on Monday, July 22 – the first day of the 2024 Annual Conference. We will begin the day with the Opening Plenary, followed by Legislative Updates and Regional Caucuses at the Grand Hyatt. We will then break for lunch and assemble for the March, which starts at 3:00 p.m. sharp.
Hill Visits
The time reserved for Hill Visits remains unchanged: 12:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. Please anticipate heightened security at the Capitol and plan accordingly. We expect that the lines to get through Security will be long, and the areas around the Capitol are expected to be extremely crowded on Wednesday. Please consider these risks when deciding whether to attend Hill Visits in person.
If you have Hill Visits scheduled, we encourage you to contact their office and ask if they will still be holding in-person meetings. You may wish to consider asking for a virtual meeting or an in-person meeting in the public areas of the Grand Hyatt. You may also consider scheduling your meetings for Tuesday or Thursday if you want to attend in person.
Registration
We recommend arriving as early as possible. Registration will be open 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. If you can, please visit the registration table on Independence Level (5B) of the Grand Hyatt on Sunday. Registration will open at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22. T-shirt pickup will also be available during these times.
Other changes have been made to the agenda to accommodate these changes. Further updates to the workshop schedule are anticipated and will be posted as soon as possible. Please review the online agenda carefully before you arrive.
An updated Conference Program will be published on the Annual Conference web page as soon as possible. Please be prepared to refer to the website for up-to-date information, as things are happening quickly on the ground.
